Nightlife - April 2011

29 Mar 2011

If you head out for a night out on the town in Docklands you will find that it’s fast becoming a suburb filled with large, sophisticated venues, and one such venue leading the charge is The Woolshed Pub.

Located in one of Docklands most prime positions, on the waterfront, in the centre of Docklands and opposite Etihad Stadium, The Woolshed Pub continues to
grow in popularity with professionals, footy fans and families alike.

Proving that Melbourne can provide fantastic waterfront venues just as well as Sydney, the venue provides stunning views of Victoria Harbour with an outdoor area overlooking the water to the Victoria Harbour precinct.

The pub, which is now into its second year, has recently introduced live music on Friday and Saturday nights and its clientele seem to be embracing it immensely.

The venue;s group sales and events manager, Lee Cleal, said that although the venue doesn’t have a set dance floor, it doesn’t take long on some nights until a crowd creates one in front of the DJ.

“We’re very happy for them to get up and have a dance and if they do we tend to start rearranging the furniture around them to provide them with extra room,” Mr Cleal said.

Catering to sophisticated clientele, the music tends to start out fairly relaxed with a chilled-out vibe and progressively increases in tempo as the night wears on.

“We don’t tend to use well-known DJs, but rather DJs that are good at reading the crowd and our DJ reads the crowd very well and will change the music accordingly,” Mr Cleal said.

The venue’s accommodating nature and great service is visible throughout every facet of the pub, from its music, to the size of its function areas and its food offerings.

“We have a bistro-style menu downstairs and a fine dining option upstairs so there’s something for everyone,” Mr Cleal said.

Licensed to hold nearly 700 patrons, it is a testament to the venue that although it is often quite packed, there is still enough room to move swiftly through the pub.

Open seven days a week from noon till late, there are no excuses not to go and test out one of Docklands’ premium venues which seamlessly combines stunning views with the old-world charm of a wool barn.
