Love it or hate it, Christmas is here!
For me Christmas is a very special time of the year. It’s an opportunity to catch up with family and friends, play a bit of beach cricket, feast on barbecue prawns, sing a few carols and, of course, open presents (hopefully many expensive ones!).
Ultimately, the gifts of Christmas point to a much greater treasure, which came wrapped as the person of Jesus Christ. For me, God entering the stage of human history is a great reason for us all to celebrate. His life, his words, his power, his death, his resurrection have continued to make Jesus not only the most famous person to have ever lived, but also the most important.
G.K Chesterton once said:
“When we were children we were grateful to those who filled our stockings at Christmas time. Why are we not grateful to God for filling our stockings with legs?”
At City on a Hill we want to provide the community with an opportunity to explore and encounter the infinite joy of the Christ in Christmas.
We are teaming up with the City of Melbourne, Lend Lease, Melbourne City Sports and a host of special guests for the Docklands Community Christmas Concert. This year’s event will be filled with fun and frivolity, held on Thursday, December 16 at the Docklands Hub on the corner of Bourke St and
Harbour Esplanade from 5.30-9pm, with music from Gospel Sunday, and carols sung by Dockland’s own community choir, coffee, giveaways, face painting, a sausage sizzle, and much, much more. Who’d want to be anywhere else?
We will be also hosting two very special Christmas services on Sunday, December 19 at 10am (Hoyts, Melbourne Central) and 6pm (Waterfront Room, Docklands). Our services include music, a Christmas message, a time to meet others from our community, and lots more. It would be great to see you and your family there to celebrate this special time of the year. For more info you can visit http://www.cityonahill.com.au. Our services for 2011 will commence on Sunday, January 9.
Merry Christmas – and have a blessed New Year!
